DVD of the Month: Elf
The blockbusters of this past summer are now entering their home entertainment section of their lives where they will reside for all time slowly dying off. However, a movie from one year ago enters this phase, but will luckily be remembered every year in December. Elf is, indeed, a classic. If you haven't been introduced to the brilliance that is Will Ferrell, it is time to crawl out from under your rock. His man-boy schtick has never been put to better use here with his performance as Buddy. Buddy wandered into Santa's bag as a child and was taken to the North Pole where he grew up to become an elf. He decides to return to New York to discover the life he never had. There, he gets a job at a department store and brings a little Christmas cheer into everyone's life including a coworker named Jovie (Zooey Deschanel, as sexy as an actress can get in a PG-rated movie.) Deschanel gets her chance to sing twice in the film and someone needs to get this indie fave in a musical and fast. The fun for all ages film will appeal to everyone and will be available to own from New Line's Infinifilm DVD series.
